Three Diné College Students Selected for Prestigious Vassar College Exploring Transfer Program
6th May 2024
TSAILE, AZ – Diné College announced that three students had been granted an opportunity to be selected to participate in the Vassar College Exploring Transfer (ET) Program, which will take place from June 24 through July 26, 2024, in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Vassar College is an independent, coeducational, residential liberal arts college located in New York’s Hudson Valley. It was founded in 1861 to offer women an education equivalent to that of the best men’s colleges of the period and became coeducational in 1969.
The Vassar College Exploring Transfer Program (www.vassar.edu) provides students from community colleges across the United States with an opportunity to experience life at a four-year institution. The program aims to broaden participants’ academic horizons, enhance their readiness for transfer, and inspire them toward achieving their higher education goals. Over five weeks, the selected students will engage in coursework, participate in educational activities, and immerse themselves in campus life at Vassar College.
The selected students, Autumn C. Russell, Jessica L. Taylor, and Tylia S. Begaye. each have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and a deep commitment to personal and community development, making them ideal representatives for this program.
“This is a significant achievement not only for the students but also for our college.” stated Dr. Charles “Monty” Roessel, Diné College President. “It reflects the high caliber of education and support we provide our students, empowering them to compete on national platforms such as the Vassar ET Program. We are confident that this experience will be transformational for them and inspire other students to strive for similar opportunities.”
The ET Program offers more than academic courses led by Vassar faculty. It provides a platform for participants to earn credits that can be transferred to their home institutions. Still, it also emphasizes the development of critical thinking, leadership, and social skills—essential competencies in today’s competitive world. This comprehensive approach to education ensures that our students are well-rounded and prepared for the challenges of the future.
Diné College extends congratulations to the selected students and wishes them a meaningful experience at Vassar College.
