TSAILE, AZ – The Diné College Student Wellness Program proudly hosted a Traditional Herb Making Virtual Workshop on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, with a strong turnout of 32 participants. The event, held via Zoom, provided a platform for students, staff, faculty, and community members to learn and engage with traditional herb-making practices rooted in Navajo culture.
Johnnie Bia Jr., who facilitated the event, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’m glad they were able to learn and take away from this workshop and use it in their daily lives.” The workshop covered essential topics such as:
- The proper mindset for Navajo people when approaching traditional practices.
- The correct method for preparing and using traditional medicines.
- The significance of offerings and how to leave them.
- Locally sourced herbs, their uses, and their connection to the land.
- How to plant medicinal herbs and incorporate traditional foods.
Participants left the workshop with valuable knowledge about local herbs and a deeper understanding of how to integrate these teachings into their daily lives.
The Student Wellness Program looks forward to continuing its mission of promoting cultural wellness at Diné College.
