Diné College Hosts Domestic Violence Prevention Workshop
TSAILE, AZ – Diné College recently held an important workshop on domestic violence prevention on February 19, 2024, at the S.U.B Activity Room. The event focused on helping participants understand the signs of abuse and how to build healthy relationships.
The workshop was led by Delton Francis from the Navajo Nation Division of Behavioral and Mental Health Services. He spoke about the different types of abuse, including physical, emotional, psychological, financial, and digital abuse. Participants learned how to recognize warning signs and the cycle of abuse, which includes tension-building, explosion, and the honeymoon phase.
In addition to identifying abuse, the event also covered support and intervention strategies. Participants were given resources and guidance on how to help victims and connect them with the right support systems. The workshop also emphasized prevention strategies, focusing on education, community involvement, and building healthy relationships.
To make the event more accessible, a Zoom option was provided for those unable to attend in person. The goal of this workshop was to spread awareness, encourage discussions, and equip individuals with the knowledge to prevent domestic violence and support those affected.
The event was organized as part of Diné College’s ongoing efforts to promote mental health and wellness within the community.
