Diné College Named Top School by Online Website

TSAILE, Ariz. — Diné College was recently named a top school in several categories by best value colleges, an online independent and nonprofit entity which measures such things as financing and academics.
“We are glad we are one of the schools being recognized by this organization,” George Joe, marketing and communications director at Diné College, said. “We are affordable and we put a high premium on education.”
The college is the most affordable in Arizona at $55 per credit hour. It is a four-year institution that offers associate and bachelor degrees in everything from biology, psychology fine arts and business administration.
The Class of 2020 graduation — conducted online due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic — saw 53 students earn bachelor’s degrees, the highest amount ever for four-year degrees at the college.
“Congratulations to Diné College for being selected as a 2020 Best Value School by the higher education experts at University Research & Review!” reads a caption from the organization. “This is the ninth year for the Best Value School awards. These exclusive awards are only granted to reasonably priced institutions whose students and alumni are most satisfied with their education and choice of school.”
There were 34 Native American included schools considered. A few student testimonials from the organization’s website:

Academically, the college puts an emphasis on Diné culture, language and curriculum and caters to students around the Navajo Nation. There is a small component of international and non-Navajo students who attend the school.
At the onslaught of COVID-19 several months ago, the college shifted to online course instruction and provided students in rural reservation areas laptops to help them get through classwork. That plan remains in place for the 2020 Summer Semester. The college maintains a student population of around 1,500.
“The college strives to connect with students everywhere,” Diné College Provost Geraldine Garrity said. “These are challenging times, and it is important to work together.”
Diné College has an above-average job placement percentage, which is particularly evident with its education degree program. That program admits students at the associate’s and bachelor’s level who go on to work at primary and secondary schools around the Navajo Nation and beyond.
The college was established in 1968 as the first tribally-controlled institution of higher learning in the U.S. The college operates six campuses in Arizona and New Mexico.
The Florida-based Best Value Schools is made up of former college presidents and current digital executives.
