Diné College to Permit Employees to Work from Home and Start a Four-Day Work Week

TSAILE, Ariz. — Diné College will move to a four-day work week beginning March 23, 2020, and majority of employees will work remotely. The move is in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we will be providing services remotely during this very challenging time, but we are not requiring people to be on-site,” Diné College Provost Dr. Geraldine Garrity said. The employees will work 10 hour days, four days a week.
Last week, Diné College moved its course offerings online for the remainder of the spring semester.
“Students are not required to come on-site, rather complete their courses online. We encourage students to work with their instructors,” Garrity said. “Student and employees are required to have their College ID cards with them to be granted access to any College campus or center. Students who do not have an ID card can present a Spring 2020 Class Schedule to identify themselves. All of this information is available through a Student FAQ that is now on the college website. Faculty will be teaching from home for online classes,” Garrity said.
Students residence are not required to return to the dorms or family apartments, but should they wish to continue class sessions at home, they may vacate. Each of the campus sites will have computer labs open, but will enact a screening process, and limit the level of traffic within’ each building. Cleaning efforts have been heightened to adhere the CDC guidelines on social distancing, cleaning surfaces, and having a centralized One-Access points for entry on campus.
“In addition, all seating areas have been rearranged to meet the social distancing of 6 feet or more for a few courses that will meet face-to-face for one more week, ensuring crowd control of no more than 10 people in one area. All courses will 100% be online by the end of that following week,” Garrity said.
“We are limiting the number of employees and students on campus,” she said. “Some will be telecommuting to provide advising and calls for services. We understand this will be a challenge, but we are committed to meeting the mission of the institution by continuing our access to higher education,” Garrity said.
For those who want to visit the campus or center location, be mindful of the following procedures put in place to guard the safety and well-being of everyone:
- Centers and campus will be monitoring entry onto campus grounds. Campus security will be monitoring daily activity and granting access to several entries.
- Limiting or closing access into buildings at each of the 6 College locations to decrease foot traffic and touching surfaces.
- Centralizing all cleaning efforts to locations accessible to our students and employees.
- Members of the community are asked to call for services and not visit on-site.
- All sites have one access point to manage traffic flow into buildings. We are asking all individuals entering a building to use these single access entries.
“We will continue to enforce Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines,” Diné College President Charles Roessel said. “Those guidelines are strongly being enforced so that a standard of safety is maintained for everyone.”
