Crystal Carr Cook Appointed Director of Tribal Housing Research at Diné College

Tsaile, Ariz. – Diné College has named Crystal Carr Cook the Director of Tribal Housing Research. With a wealth of experience in legislative affairs, public policy, and Indigenous governance, Cook is poised to lead efforts to address critical housing issues and promote sustainable, culturally relevant solutions for tribal communities.
Prior to this appointment, Cook served as the Director of Legislative Affairs and Special Projects at Diné College. Over her seven-year tenure, she successfully secured more than $85 million in legislative appropriations and grants. Her leadership advanced critical initiatives in higher education policy, legislative relations, and special projects, furthering tribal sovereignty and self-determination.
Cook’s academic credentials include a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor’s in Applied Indigenous Studies from Northern Arizona University. She is also an alum of Diné College. She is a doctoral candidate in Justice Studies at Arizona State University, and her research focuses on the intersection of housing, justice, and tribal governance.
“As Director of Tribal Housing Research, I am committed to fostering innovative research and crafting policy recommendations that ensure equitable and self-sufficient tribal housing development,” Cook said. “My goal is to address the unique housing challenges faced by Indigenous communities while integrating traditional knowledge with modern governance.”
Her new role at Diné College highlights the institution’s dedication to serving tribal nations through impactful research and policy work.
“Tribal housing development is not just about building homes; it’s about creating spaces that reflect and sustain our culture,” Cook added. “I am honored to contribute to this vital mission and look forward to collaborating with tribal partners to drive meaningful change.”

Begay and Pablo highlighted specific resources and programs available at the Crownpoint Center to encourage academic success. They spoke about initiatives designed to make higher education accessible to Navajo students while ensuring the campuses remain hubs for community growth.
“Connecting with students in the range of the Crownpoint center is one of our greatest priorities,” said Begay. “The external campuses are vital in serving our communities and supporting students on their educational journeys.”
Pablo added, “Through Warrior Radio and platforms like these, we are able to share the resources Diné College is offering to empower students and strengthen our Nation.”
