Diné College Celebrates Fall 2023 Commencement Ceremony with 87 Graduates

TSAILE, AZ — Diné College proudly held its Fall 2023 Commencement Ceremony on December 8th at the Pinon Pit Gymnasium, located at the main campus in Tsaile, Arizona. The ceremony marked a significant milestone as 87 graduates were conferred with a total of 91 degrees and certificates.

The diverse graduating class included 22 recipients of Bachelor’s degrees in Arts, Fine Arts, and Sciences, showcasing the academic excellence achieved in various fields. Additionally, 51 graduates received Associate degrees in Arts and Sciences, 2 in Applied Sciences, 15 earned certificates, and 1 proudly completed a minor in Native American Studies.

Madam Speaker Crystalyne Curley of the 25th Navajo Nation Council graced the occasion as the esteemed commencement speaker, inspiring graduates with her words of wisdom and sharing insights from her remarkable journey in public service.

President Charles “Monty” Roessel expressed his pride and optimism for the future of Diné College graduates, stating, “Thank you for being being here, and thank you for being apart of a Diné College and Navajo Community College tradition. Your achievements are a testament to your dedication, resilience, and the strong foundation of education provided by Diné College. As you embark on the next chapter of your lives, carry with you the values instilled during your time here and make a positive impact in your communities and beyond.”

Interim Provost Dr. Alysa Landry echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of education in shaping not only individual lives but also the collective progress of the community. “Education is a powerful tool for transformation and empowerment. The knowledge and skills you have gained at Diné College will serve as a catalyst for positive change. As you step into the future, continue to seek knowledge and contribute to the betterment of our society,” stated Dr. Landry.

The Fall 2023 Commencement Ceremony at Diné College was a joyous celebration of academic accomplishments, cultural diversity, and the resilience of the graduates. The institution looks forward to witnessing the continued success and positive impact of its alumni in the years to come.

Diné College is the first tribally controlled college, established in 1968. As a postsecondary educational institution, Diné College awards associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, a master’s degree, and certificates in areas important to the economic and social development of the Navajo Nation.
