Diné College School of Arts & Humanities Hires New English Faculty Member

TSAILE, AZ, May 10, 2022 — Diné College is excited to welcome Assistant Professor, Brie Jontry. Prof. Jontry holds a bachelor’s degree in English from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in English from the University of Alaska.
Before joining Diné College Prof. Jontry has taught first-year writing course for almost two decades at state universities and small community colleges. Since 2014 she has been teaching exclusively online. While at the University of Alaska she held a two-year Technology Fellowship that focused on developing best practices in online course design and technology integrations followed by faculty mentorships. In addition to teaching, she has also been a faculty-peer review fellow and mentor in a program that prizes collaborative pedagogy while facilitating continued professional growth.
“I am excited to be a new faculty member at Diné College. My coursework focuses on demystifying academic discourse communities by helping writers develop an understanding of and appreciation for rhetorical situations and strategies and the necessary conventions for writing across the curriculum. My goals are to help writers grow the confidence and skills they need to communicate effectively, think more critically, and not be afraid to ask questions or change their minds. I strive to create meaningful writing assignments that learners find relevant to their lives on and off campus” said Prof. Jontry.
“The School of Arts & Humanities is looking forward to welcoming Prof. Jontry to our school, says the Dean, School of Arts & Humanities, Dr. Paul Willeto. “Prof. Jontry has a lot of experience teaching composition at the university level, and as the college transition to a research university in the future, faculty with university level composition teaching experience will enhance the school writing program”, said Dr. Willeto.
Diné College is a four-year tribal college located on the Navajo reservation with six campuses and two microsites across Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah and primarily serves Navajo students. The school offers 20 bachelor degrees, 16 associate degrees, and 6 certificate programs. The school is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The College, established in 1968.
