Diné College hosts First Annual Diné College Scholarship Fishing Tournament

TSAILE, Ariz.— Diné College hosted the First Annual Diné College Scholarship Fishing Tournament at Wheatfields and Tsaile Lake on July 31, 2021. All proceeds from the fishing tournament will be going to the Diné College Scholarship Fund. A total of $6,665 was raised for the Warrior Scholarship Fund, as well as $4,605 from sponsorships and donations to support the 2021 Diné College Scholarship Fishing Tournament.
A total of 148 people registered and participated in the event catching over 45 rainbow and brown trout that were weighed in the competition with the prize going to the heaviest catch.
First place winner was Kellen Onie Denny who caught a 22-inch fishing weighing in at 5.1 pounds. Kellen won a Pelican Mustang 100x kayak with a paddle and life jacket.
The second-place winner was Tyler Peacock who caught an 18-inch fish weighing in at 3 pounds. Tyler’s prize was a Goal Zero Yeti 200x portable power pack, a Goal Zero Boulder 50 solar panel, and a Goal Zero Light-A-Life LED 360 lantern.
The third-place winner was Colbert Brown who caught a fish weighing in at 2.9 pounds. Colbert won a Yeti Tundra 35 cooler;
The fourth-place winner was Charinda Jones who caught a 17-inch fish that weighed in at 2.1 pounds. “Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all those who participated in the 1st Annual Diné College Scholarship Fishing Tournament,” said Marie Nez, Vice President of External Affairs

Diné College will be hosting another scholarship fundraiser called the Diné College Golfers for Scholars 2021 Scholarship Golf Tournament. Diné College is a four-year tribal college located on the Navajo reservation with six campuses and two microsites across Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah and primarily serves Navajo students. The school offers 13 bachelor degrees, 20 associate degrees, and 9 certificate programs. The school is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The college, established in 1968, is the first tribal college and was formerly named Navajo Community College.
